Magic Trick Animation
Metal tool box.
Fifteen students of the Media Arts & Animation department at The Art Institute of California – San Diego created this 2:06 animated short film. They worked together, sharing files, mentoring, critiquing, all the while “plussing” (thanks Pixar & Disney) each other’s work.
Under the expert guidance of independent short film creator and award-winning animator Sam Chen the team created this story over a period of eleven weeks. They created everything from concept to completion except for the free character rigs graciously offered up by their creators: the Andi rig (John Doublestein) , Alfred rig (Rodri Torres), and Norman rig (Leif Jeffers, Morgan Loomis, Peter Starostin, Neal Thibodeaux)
Not only do we offer an industry-relevant curriculum and strong connections with employers, but we have several team project classes where utilize the production pipeline for visual entertainment. We emulate how an animation studio runs. Because of this, students find themselves more prepared to jump into production directly after graduation.
